5 “Must-Do” Tours in Asheville, NC

The LaZoom Comedy Bus Tour is just one of many outstanding tours in Asheville, NC

#1. LaZoom City Comedy Bus Tour

Easily one of the most popular tours in Asheville is the LaZoom Comedy Bus Tour. These iconic buses travel noon and night, entertaining the masses. What can honestly be considered a theatrical show is actually quite interesting and informative! Tours last for 90 minutes and explore the ins-and-outs of the Paris of the South.

Comedy is rated PG-13 and the rule of ‘you must be 13 to ride’ is strictly adhered to. Alcohol IS allowed, and there will be a ten-minute intermission halfway through the tour. This is a very popular attraction, and reservations aren’t just recommended, they’re practically a necessity. Tickets can be purchased at boarding if seats are available, but most tours sell out, so call in advance (before the day-of). The tour season runs weekends in February and March and continually April through December. Don’t miss out!

#2. Ghost and Haunt Tour of Asheville

Haunted Asheville is another popular local tour company that offers a variety of thrills and chills. The classic walking tour is a 2-hour trek through the city led (safely!) by knowledgeable guides. This is a family-friendly option and will leave you filled with wonder and curiosity, and ends with a visit to the Asheville Mystery Museum.

For something a bit more scary, try the new Vampire & Occult Tour, the Haunted Pub Crawl, or the Biltmore Village Mystery Tour. Like La Zoom, these tours sell out quickly, and you book online.

#3. Asheville by Foot

Every Saturday you can experience Asheville in a way that will make you want to stay forever. Asheville by Foot tours takes you all over the city, exploring its 200 year history and treating you to unique and hidden places that are only accessible by foot. Through great storytelling, you’ll get the inside scoop on the city’s oldest, newest, and most popular destinations.

Each participant will received a headset with a recording of the tour (compatible with most hearing aids), so you won’t miss a word. The tour is extremely family friendly and is very leisurely, with at least one bathroom break. Advanced tickets are highly recommended but not required (walk-ups are welcome if space is available), and tickets can be purchased online. Tours run at 10am, 2pm, and 4pm on Saturdays.

#4. Asheville Brewery Tours

The Asheville Brewery Tour will get you behind-the-scenes access to many of the areas most popular breweries (including meet-and-greets with brewmasters who give a little insight to their brewing process). Tours are led by locals and come in two varieties (a walking pub crawl of historic downtown breweries or a mobile tour of outlying breweries wherein the vehicles are driven by designated locals so that everyone can drink responsibly).

They run several tours per week at varying times. This tour is also available as an exclusive private tour!

#5. Asheville Bike Taxi

One of the most unique (and quickest) ways to tour the city is to take a Bike Taxi. Say you don’t have the time or the desire to take a several hours-long tour and you just want to pop from one end of downtown to the other, call the bike taxi. They travel all through downtown, the river arts section, Montford, West Asheville, and beyond and are filled with interesting tidbits. You can call (or text) them, or even hail them down if you seem them pedaling past. Fares start at $5, and their state-of-the-art electric-assisted pedi cabs can hold 1-2 adults.

While enjoying some fabulous tours in Asheville, make sure to pick up some locally made Asheville souvenirs for you or your friends back home (well, good luck giving these away; better pick up two (or ten?) to be safe…).
