Tokens and tickets and treats, oh my!

OK, so we have a few more days until the official start of summer, but the weather definitely says otherwise.

The beach is filling up with families on vacation, and I’ve decided to visit a few fun places in the upcoming weeks. This week I went to Funland, an oldie but goodie, and surely a hit with the kids.

Funland is basically a huge arcade with all of the standards. My friend Erin and I were mostly excited about Skee-ball.

We played a few other games such as Whack-A-Mole and the fake slot machines, but kept getting drawn back into the solo bowling brouhaha that is Skee-ball.

I certainly think my Skee-ball skills have vastly improved since the days of Chuck-E-Cheese and mall arcades – in one of my first games hit two 100-point holes.

Funland is a basic tokens-to-tickets arcade where at the end of your play you cash in all your won tickets for prizes. Of course, these prizes would cost substantially less than what you would pay for them in cash, but, hey, isn’t that half the fun.

I had just shy of 175 tickets at the end of my play, so my friend lent me the nine or so I needed for the Whoopie cushion I’d been eyeing. She made off with a mini-harmonica, a glider airplane and a few pieces of candy.

I had plans for that Whoopie cushion, but when I went to try it out at home, it popped before I could even get out the first “whoopee.” Sad times.

Funland also has all kinds of treats such as ice cream sundaes, burgers, hotdogs and chicken fingers. They’ll even throw your kid a birthday party – for the right amount of tickets, that is.
