October means fall. Fall means pumpkins. And pumpkins means Joe Huber Family Farm just across the river in Starlight, IN. Ask anyone in Louisville. Seriously, anyone.
For years, it’s been a Louisville tradition for groups of family and friends to visit Huber’s Farm, hitch a tractor ride out to the fields, and choose that perfect pumpkin. This fall the seventh generation of Huber kin is running the farm, and the pumpkins are out in full force.
Right now visitors can pick pumpkins any day of the week (Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. or dark, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. or dark, Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.). You’ll find pumpkins in all shapes and sizes, and they cost around 39 cents per pound.
In addition to pumpkin picking, Huber’s hosts a fall festival every weekend in October. Pick out fresh apples, Indian corn and squash, and snack on homemade caramel apples. There’s also a full restaurant on site, as well as live music on the weekends.
If bringing the kiddos, they’ll love Huber’s Barnyard ($4 per child ages 2-18, free for parents). With an inflatable slide, mini riding tractors, outdoor laser tag, pony rides, a corn maze and more, they’ll stay occupied long beyond the trip out to the pumpkin patch.
Joe Huber Family Farm is located 22 miles north of Louisville at 2421 Engle Road, Starlight, Indiana. Note: If searching online for Joe Huber Family Farm, you may also stumble across Huber’s Orchard and Winery in Borden, Indiana. These are two different places.
