What do weight loss, the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra and autism have in common? Well, the answer is hilarious! The 6th annual Stand Up for Autism comedy event will take place Friday, March 26, 2010. Former Crimson Tide football player Roger Schultz, of television's The Biggest Loser, will emcee the event at Moody Music Hall on the University of Alabama campus. Moody Hall is the home of the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra. See? It is all coming together now.
The night of hilarity benefits The Autism Society of Alabama as well as the after school therapy program, Arts and Autism. The comedy portion of the event features local talents, Rick Dowling, Max Karrh and Brad Fisher. Dowling and Karrh, whose stand up careers are firmly rooted in this event, have since gone on to be finalists in Birmingham's Stardome comedy competition. In other words, these are seasoned performers who will leave you rolling in the aisle.
In addition to more experienced comedians, the show features the Funniest Stylist contest. In this portion of the show, local hair stylists tell jokes, raising money with votes to determine who will reign supreme as the funniest stylist in all of Tuscaloosa, heck, the world for that matter. When have you heard of any other Funniest Stylist competition?
There will also be light appetizers and a live and silent auction to round out the evening. Featured auction items include tickets to The Ellen DeGeneres Show, artwork by Arts and Autism students and signed sports memorabilia. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., and the show begins at 7:00. Tickets are $30 per person and can be purchased online or at the door.
