Tucked away in a strip mall next to a Food Lion is a quite a diamond in the rough if you are a BBQ lover. Virginia isn’t really known for its mouth-watering, soul satisfying BBQ, but the Virginia BBQ certainly does of good job helping to put Virginia on the map in that regard. There aren’t too many places I will go to get BBQ on the Virginia Peninsula, but this is one of them now after I’ve tried it out myself!
Not to leave any of the states out that are better known for their BBQ, VA BBQ’s menu includes not only Virginia BBQ sandwiches, combos, and platters, but North Carolina and Texas BBQ as well. I tried out the Virginia BBQ sandwich consisting of hand-pulled pork tossed with their original VA BBQ sauce. I must say it really hit the spot! The North Carolina BBQ is seasoned with a blend of champagne vinegar and whole grain spices, while the Texas BBQ is made from brisket beef smoked to perfection.
The VA BBQ also serves up St. Louis slabs of ribs, rotisserie chicken, and all-beef hot dogs. And as you would expect from any good BBQ place, the sides are just as enticing as the BBQ itself. The VA BBQ offers French fries, baked beans, seasoned collard greens, southern shredded coleslaw, corn bread muffins, hush puppies, roasted red potato salad, and whipped Idaho potatoes.
The VA BBQ in Newport News is located at Stoney Brook Shopping Center, 15435 Warwick Blvd, Suite J, Newport News, VA 23601, 757-877-4BBQ (4227).
